May 28th

In this class, we watched a movie for about 20 minutes that talks about what is a bad title page, and a good title page. In this movie, it showed a bad example of a title page, then showed how that title page could be improved. I thought this was useful because by showing both the bad title page and good title page, the mistake is easy to recognize. The next 25 minutes, we were planning to use iMovie so we went to Mr. Paterson because he was teaching us how to use iMovie. I knew most of the things he showed us because I used it before, but I didn't know we could change the end of the sound effect which we could lower the sound. I thought this was awesome because I was struggling with that problem because when I put any sound effects, it always stops suddenly when I go to the next part in iMovie. Then in the last 5 minutes, we went back to our own group and played around with iMovie to get used to it.

Before we start to work with our group, Mr. Paterson talked about how a good title page looks, and how a bad title page looks. For example, if the presenter's name was not on the title page, it is a bad title page. Also, when putting a picture in the title page, we need to make sure the picture is easy to see and connects with the title/topic we are going to talk about. I thought it was interesting because when I make a presentation, I was doing what bad title page will look like. After that, Mr. Paterson also talked about how the presentation starts and ends. At the start of the presentation after the title page, we start with the outline then talked about the topic, then summary, conclusion, limitations, Reference, Q and A, one last thing, then finally "Thank You" I thought this was interesting as well because I usually end only with conclusion, reference, then "Thank You". Then we went back as a group to start talking about who is saying first, middle the...

May 21

In this class, we started talking about something that some people made a mistake in the blog that talked about last class(May 20th).  Then during Mr. Paterson was talking about the percentages of people who can't use laptops, phone, and others, he started talking about the universities he has gone to teach the students in those universities. In those universities, not many students could use laptops, phones and so on. After he was done speaking, we went back to our group and kept talking about the problems in each school that should be solved. In the last lesson, we added some ideas but in this lesson, we also added some ideas. For example, the student's lockers are too small, recess is too short, not allowed to go to the rooftop and so on. 15 minute before the class ends, we started talking about who is going to do each part which was the first speaker with a loud voice that could involve the audience. Then the middle speaker who understands all the information they p...

May 20th

In the start of the lesson, we had to get together as a group which was chosen at the end of the last lesson in class. We talked about different things and one of them that I thought was interesting was the interview to the secondary school teacher asking about the percentages of teachers letting students use electronic things because when other countries let the students use laptops and others, Japan has the lowest percentages of secondary school teachers letting students using laptops, phones, and more in school. Mr. Paterson showed us one example in ICU where the students use only paper for everything, so when they hand in long essays, they have a box that said their names and put it in there. When the teachers check it, they take it out of that boxes and after checking, they find each person's boxes and put it back. I thought this was really tiring so instead, they should use a laptop so that the students are easier to write, and it will be easier for the teachers to check it. ...

May 14th

In the class on May 14th, we started off with Mr. Patterson's presentation talking about how bad the way is in all the schools. Some of the bad things were about the way the tables are like because if we keep the tables normally, there will at least have 1-2 people getting sleepy and starts sleeping one by one. However, because of how the tables are, the teachers might not be able to catch all the students that are sleeping. To improve this, they thought about changing the way the tables are, and make the chairs movable so that they can move during class and after class, they can put it back. I think this was a good idea because I sometimes get sleepy but when I move around or stand up, I can stay awake. We learned more about where the Japanese school should change for the students that go to that school. It's been 4 weeks after I came to this school, but I still thought this school should also change like the schools that already understands this problem. In this lesson, I l...

May 13th

In this class (May 13th), we went through the blogs to see if it was working because some weren't shared or it was not the right URL. We have taught how to use a website called feedly.com. This website is where we could put all our blogs together to see all at the same time. I thought this website was useful because this website, also tells us which blog I didn't read yet. As we were going through the blogs, Mr. Paterson realized about the way we write paragraphs. For example, a good paragraph has about 8-11 sentences. Good paragraphs also have at least 3 paragraph where there is a topic sentence that says what you are going to talk about. Then there is a paragraph where you go further and talking more specifically about what we did. Then in the last paragraph, it will be a conclusion about the lesson. I don't really use a website like freedly.com, so I wasn't interested. However, now I think using a similar kind of website isn't a bad thing because it takes tim...

May 7th

Yesterday (May 7th) , we started the class making our own blogs to record what we did in class each day from today. However, the wifi didn't work well and wasn't really able to access any site at the start of the lesson, so I was really annoyed because when some people were going forward,  I was behind struggling. After waiting for a few minutes, my wifi finally worked so I was able to make my blog. In today's lesson, I learned that memory only last for 3 days so from now on, I will post what we did in class in 3 days so that I can write things specifically to the readers.
